Love thy neigbour .....(Ghanaians & Nigerians)

Hey good people whas up?!

I will first of all like to say a big THANK U to Tayo, 36 Inches of ... and Abujababe, for visiting my page and leaving those interesting comments.

Ok so now to business........ Am I the only one who is sooo fed up of the divisions between Nigerians and Ghanaians and all the rubbish that people believe(that Nigerians are all 419 and Ghanaian do not like Nigerians and Vice versa).
What is all that crap about. And funny enough it doesnt even stop at that....it even exsists amongst our our own communities. For instance, a Yoruba family might not find it funny if thier daughter brought home an Igbo guy as her boyfriend, and it is the same where i came from (Ghana). Marriages between people from different ethnic groups and countries (especially Naija) are never smooth sailing.

Why is this still going on in this day and age, Why are people judged according to country or tribe that they are from. It is just not fair.

I am Ghanaian and always have to deal with people giving me funny looks when i meet them for the first time and mention through conversation that my Boyfriend is Nigerian.....I always get this look as in...'Oh no u didnt'... and i also give them the 'Oh yes i did and i dont give a rass what u say so get over it'

I have been to Lagos a few times and it is a nice place to be (but not as nice as Ghana, no offence), i will admit that it is a bit chaotic with the whole Nepa and the trasportation system (okada & lasma).
I constantly find myself in arguments with my Ghanaian friends and even family who seem to believe that Nigerians are no good and feel that they are better off.

How do we bridge this gap and put an end to all this discrimination.

I will tell you this for nothing Ghanaian and Nigerian culture have soo much in common. We all do and eat the same things ..the only difference is that we all have different names for them. Nigerians eat efo Ghanaians eat Kontomire (Spinach stew), Nigerians drink Pap whiles Ghanaians drink Kooko........oh yeah and we all love our Jollof Rice and Fried Rice.

Nigerians are lovely, very intersting and fun to be around...

So what is the big deal!! Inobi the same blood weh dey flow through our veins.

Wekan life be this !!

yep, the "war" has to stop. i think its all about the mind set. people have certain ideas about a particular tribe or class of people. my elder bro just got married last week to a Muslim Edo lady and he is an Ibo Xtian. its taken almost a year but the families finally agreed. xtians dont want muslims, ibos dont want edos and so on.

Its left to people like me and u to take the challenge and make this "difference" between us work together.

by the way, lovely blog. will be visiting always

I like you already,

I don't think the whole nigerian thing is only from ghanians. It's an idea a lot of Africans carry around.
I had the opportunity to go to an ASA event and I got to talking to some people. I spoke to a Kenyan, someone from Sierra-Leone,An Ethiopian,Someone from burkina faso and some other ppl I can't remember their nationalities.
(Sorry for the lengthy respnse)

I Introduced myself and said I was Nigerian, u shld've seen the way they all started shouting and asking me if I knew where I was from, because I was to nice, decent to be nigerian.

Anyways, the obvious 419 thing was an issue, but theyalso said we were an arrogant and proud lot.....thinking of it, there is some truth to that. But like someone said, it's up to US to change all that... my best-friends from sierra leone and ghana.
Let's hope we can do that

"Oh no you didnt, Oh yes I did"

LOL!! I can just about imagine the look on your faces at the time. I dont know why everyone is so suspicious of the other and generalization is the norm but I guess we all will get over that some day.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

It's Actually a African thing.. They just dont feel Naija's at all..

The 419 thing has got there backs up!

Such a shame because Nigerians are some of the warmest and friendliest people you can meet..

But now adays i dont know if it's so bad with the Ghanians especially the younger generation we do mix and blend alot, but damn when i was growing up in Primary school we did used to get alot hate from the Ghana massive!..

i do not know why i feel like that towards the ghanaians, like they are just not to be taken seriously. maybe it's from watching their home videos cos i dont really know many ghanaians. but this is not only btw nigerians and ghanaians, it is worse with southafricans. and there are many countries like that that hear one stereotype and then cast everyone in the same mold. so it is something we all have to go against, and one thing that is really helping is music nowadays, and also we seem to be doing much more business together. so i think in no time we will get over it.

As i type this response, i'm in Ghana checked into Ell'or Castle hotel and jazz gardens around atomic down.......Ghanaians, I make bold to say are so phobic of Nigerians that they cringe at the sight of us!.....they won't do business with us......i wanted to buy a house but had my offer turned down:reason...I'm Nigerian and my pple are buying up the country, so they need to stop us!......as a Nigerian if you want to do business in Ghana u need to shell out a cool USD300,000!!!......this rule is exclusively for Nigerians...you are exempted if u are a sierra leonian, Ivorian, Togolese etc.
Not only in Ghana do we experience this unwarranted hatred...it's all over the world!...the Killers of Lucky Dube said they killed him cos they thought he is nigerian!......however, majority of black men committing crime all over the world are not nigerians, but, they have nigerian Passport which is cheaper by the dozen(a real shame on us). I knew what extent my country went to to see out apartheid in SA and Namibia...but what do we get in return.....HATRED!....Imagine Nigerians needing visa to enter SA!!!......SWAPO(South West Africa People's Organisation) was practically ran by Sam Nujoma as a guest of the Nigerian Govt from Victoria Island, Lagos Nigeria.....yet we have to procure some bloody visa to visit namibia.
Should Nigerians chose to become xenophobic....hmmmmm! it'll not be funny at all and you know we can be extremely good at bad things!....so, a clarion call on all nations, especially africans to put themselves into check!...or......

Wow, I was just thinking about this issue recently. It's been in mind for a while now, actually. Its unfortunate that Nigerians have a bad rep in Africa and overseas. Do a few bad eggs spoil the whole bunch? If we believe that, then we choose to be ignorant and ignorance is not bliss.

Having said this, Nigerians who have decided to live criminal lives especially outside Nigeria have themselves to blame for this and the rest of us are dealing with the aftermath.

This discourse is necessary to take place lets really ask ourselves should we give in to generalisations, or should we seek to unite Africa. Its so sad that the continent is were it is today and we dont have much to show for joint efforts. Case in point, travelling within Africa is ridiculous, most times becos u cant find a flight going from one African country to the next u have to go to Europe before connecting back to Africa.

We may decide to see each other as the "other" but unfortunately it harms us all.

Ghanians and Nigerians are great one on one, So when I read all this hate mail from both sides on certain chat rooms or blogs I wonder, who are these people?

Negative news in Nigeria makes front page news in Ghana. Really? Is it that bad? Meanwhile, Nigerians dont even "send" Ghana like that. Not to be snooty, it just is.

We better figure ourselves out, We do business with one another, we need each other. Fact is Nigeria has one of the biggest markets with a population of about 150 million people, why do u think a certain telecomm company that was on the verge of shutting down in South Africa became one of the biggest if not the biggest and most successful telecooms company in Africa. Becos of their success in Nigeria they are strong in Africa and were able to build their headquarters in South Africa.

Nigerians are getting their act together with regards to the negative reputation we seem to garner any where we are. Im proud to be Nigerian we dont carry ill feelings for long. This too shall pass, and we will be seen as whom we have been all along. Strong, industrous, resilient, lovable, warm, generous, kind, empathetic, sympathetic, people that are proud of their heritage. A people(s) that God in his infinite knowledge created to be. Naija for life!

SAKAWA and Ghanaians are like the name kofi and Nana lol my dear bad and good things are in every country.
every Ghanaian child is taught how to see little of Nigerians. like calling Nigerians alata and Agona, what a shame. how would a ghana man feels if he is been referred to as shoemaker. or "Ghana must go" Again how would you dare compare Lagos to Ghana ? pls Lagos is just a one of the 36 states in Nigeria , Ghana is a Country. you talk about uniting but yet you make comparison btw Lagos and Ghana and say Ghana is better off. the money in Lagos is far more than that in Ghana as a whole .
brother if you want peace preach it without biasness of who and where is better off. i have 100% proof if you care to read. my kids are half Nig and Gha.and it has always been problems from this to that.... i rest my case , have a nice day.
